A leader. A nurturer. An achiever. An artist. An adventurer. An intellectual. A stabilizer. ‎"When she arrives, all eyes are upon her. When absent, she is the subject of universal conversation. And what we see her wearing tonight, I look forward to seeing the rest of you wearing tomorrow! The empress of fashion herself. The Duchess of New Orleans."

Hip Hop has captured the hearts and ears of so many since its birth in the 70’s. Expanding and changing into so many things, seemingly having children as the art took on spaces in clothing, dance, visual art, movie and video, as well mutli faceted auditory entertainment of all sorts. Today a young woman, Davida Smith, chronicled it’s impact on her life via a script that has turned into the stage play “Hip Hop Is Alive”. The play features Adrione Domino, Mark Caesar, Gian “G-Prospective” Smith, Nicole Collins, Trenton “T-Ray” Thomas, Chuck “Lyrikill” Jones, Rosa Clay, Jayla Williams and Jevon “RQ Away” Thompson as well as Davida herself in a multi act demonstration of the pervasive art form. After a series of showings in the 2011 New Orleans Fringe Fest & a follow up one night showing in 2012, we are excited to announce that Hip Hop Is Alive will be featured in this year’s Atlanta Fringe Fest!! If your up for the ride please come to ATL to support a great demonstration of NOLA talent and love for the genre that has touched us all. If you aren’t able to make the trip please support the play by donating to the Indie Go Go campaign headed by Ms. Davida Smith more info and show times below.

A week after Hurricane Isaac squatted over Southeastern Louisiana, bowel movement jokes fill a room on Tulane Avenue. A deejay drops intros for comedians who lament, decry and ridicule recent events. Power outages and long drives are laughing matters when the levees work. Tonight the audience lounges on white chairs and sips cold drinks in […]
